Joel Solorzano is a highly accomplished, and deeply committed, higher education specialist with 13 years of experience dedicated to empowering students, particularly first-generation and underrepresented individuals. A native of Washington, D.C., and the first in his family from El Salvador to earn a university degree, Joel understands firsthand the transformative power of education. He holds a bachelor of science in geography from the University of Maryland and a master of business administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and a broad academic foundation. Throughout his career, Joel has excelled in roles requiring personalized guidance, robust case management, and proactive support. As a bilingual education specialist at the University of Maryland, College Park, he has provided one-on-one academic and career advising to a diverse caseload, including high school students, adult learners, and veterans, guiding them through complex educational pathways.
Joel’s extensive experience in personalized guidance, a proven track record of supporting students from diverse backgrounds through every stage of college preparation and success, and his strong collaborative spirit align perfectly with the mission of the ACES program. Outside of his professional endeavors, Joel is an avid cyclist and practices jiu-jitsu, and enjoys time with his wife and three daughters, who are from Nicaragua.
