Minjote Mekonen was born and raised in the DC metro area by immigrant parents from Ethiopia. After high school, she moved on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and later earned her master’s in school counseling and doctor of education in educational leadership and management from Capella University. In 2013 she began working with underrepresented youth populations in functions such as a school counselor, mentor, and even an athletic coach. Most recently she worked with the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) aiding youth 18-24 to remove barriers to both education and employment. She is driven to continue expanding her scope of influence to encourage positive student outcomes for various youth across the state of Maryland. She is happy to be part of the ACES team and enjoys working with diverse populations in the Montgomery County community.
