Val Melgosa is a first-generation college student. He grew up with a learning disability, and comes from a low socioeconomic status, working class, family. He is the only member of his family to continue with post-secondary education, and has been very persistent, hardworking, and fierce to overcome many obstacles in accomplishing professional goals. Originally from California, his educational journey started at El Camino Community College where he earned an AA in general studies. He then transferred to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and earned a BS in human development, and furthered his education at California State University, Long beach where he earned a master of science in counseling.
He has been working in higher education, spanning two-year and four-year institutions, small colleges and large universities, supporting traditional and non-traditional student populations. He is a caring father of two children, ages 10 and 15, and works diligently to be an effective, positive, and realistic role model.
Mr. Melgosa looks forward to engaging with ACES scholars; connecting them to MC resources, services, and support systems; and seeing them achieve their academic goals.
