Mary Álvaro is an experienced higher education professional with a strong background in student success, program development, and educational access. She served as manager of community impact & marketing at Jefferson Security Bank, where she led a financial literacy program serving over 1,600 participants annually and built partnerships with colleges to provide experiential learning for students.
Previously, she worked as an academic retention specialist for the TRIO program at Shepherd University, supporting over 80 first-generation and income-eligible students through academic coaching and case management. She co-authored a successful $1.2 million federal grant and contributed to inclusive campus planning efforts.
As an adjunct professor at Shepherd University, she designed and taught career readiness courses focused on adult learning and skill development. She also held roles in academic coaching, student affairs, and residential life, and supported summer bridge programming for underrepresented students.
Her service extended to the community through her board leadership with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), where she helped develop scholarship and mentoring programs for youth in the child welfare system.
She earned a master’s in counseling & college student personnel and is completing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration & Educational Leadership from Liberty University.
